Le batteur américain Bradford Lee Parker, du groupe disco Generation Esmeralda, est mort sur scène en plein concert dans l’Etat de Minas Gerais (sud-est du Brésil), a annoncé lundi l’un des producteurs du groupe.

Parker, 59 ans, a visiblement été victime d’un infarctus et s’est effondré sur sa batterie au début du spectacle, dimanche à l’aube, dans la ville de Uba, a précisé Sergio Lopes, producteur du groupe californien, cité par le site G1 du journal O Globo. Des images de télévision ont enregistré le moment où le batteur s’effondre sur son instrument de musique puis tombe par terre, derrière le chanteur. Le concert a été immédiatement interrompu et le musicien transporté à l’hôpital. « Les médecins ont tout fait mais malheureusement, rien n’y a fait », a déploré M. Lopes. Le corps du musicien sera rapatrié lundi en Californie où le reste du groupe a déjà voyagé, selon G1. Generation Esmeralda est un groupe de musique disco formé par des anciens musiciens de Santa Esmeralda, un groupe franco-américain de la fin des années 70. AFP

US drummer Bradford Lee Parker of the Generation Esmeralda band died of a heart attack during a concert in the southeastern Brazilian city of Uba, one of the producers for the group said Monday.

Sergio Lopes, a producer for the group in Brazil, told the Gl news portal that the 59-year-old Parker died Sunday in the Minas Gerais state city. Television pictures showed the moment when Parker collapsed on his instrument. The show was interrupted and he was rushed to hospital. « Doctors performed all the emergency procedures but unfortunately there was no solution, » Lopes said. Parker’s body was to be flown back to California in the next few hours, G1 said. Generation Esmeralda is a disco group formed by ex-members of Santa Esmeralda, a franco-US band of the 1970’s.
