A l’occasion de l’avant-première du film I am Ali, le 10 octobre dernier, le frère de Mohamed Ali, a confié que l’ancien champion du monde des poids lourds, atteint de la maladie de Parkinson depuis 1984, avait du mal à s’exprimer.
Atteint de la maladie de Parkinson depuis 1984, l’état de Mohamed Ali ne cesse de se détériorer au fil des années, à tel point que son frère confiait en début d’année, que l’Américain ne survivrait pas à l’année 2014. A l’occasion de l’avant-première du film «I am Ali», qui retrace le portrait intimiste de l’un des plus grands boxeurs de tous les temps, Mohamed Ali était absent mais sa famille était bien présente à Hollywood. Rahman, le frère cadet du champion olympique aux Jeux Olympiques de Rome en 1960 a tenu à donner de ses nouvelles.
«Je n’ai pas pu parler à mon frère de ça parce qu’il est malade. Il ne parle pas très bien. Mais il est fier que nous soyons là pour lui. Il a donné sa bénédiction pour ce film», a-t-il confié au Daily Mail. La fille du «Champ» a tout de même tenu à souligner que son père, âgé de 72 ans, allait apprécier le film. «Il ne l’a pas encore vu, mais je suis très impatiente qu’il le voit. Il va l’adorer. Je le sais. Il va pleurer, il va rire. Il va être fier», a-t-elle affirmé. Réalisé par Clare Lewins, la sortie du film est prévue le 25 novembre prochain. In lefigaro.fr
Muhammad Ali’s battle with debilitating Parkinson’s disease has reached the point at which he can barely speak, his brother has revealed.
The legendary boxer, 72, was too ill to attend the premiere of a film about his life last week – or to take part in any of the production for it. « I have not been able to talk to my brother about this because he is sick, » Rahman, 71, told the Sunday People at a screening of I Am Ali in Hollywood.
« He doesn’t speak too well. But he is proud that we are here for him. He has given this film his blessing. » »He has not seen the film yet, but I am very excited for him to see it, » Ali’s 46-year-old daughter, Maryum, also said at the screening. « He is going to love it. I know he is. He is going to cry, he is going to laugh. He will be very proud. »
The documentary focuses on the family life of Ali – the three-time world heavyweight champion famed for his quick wit and lightning speed in the ring. Director Clare Lewins pieced the feature-length together using Ali’s own audio journals, as well as oral histories from rival boxers, like Mike Tyson and George Foreman.Muhammad’s son, Ali Jnr, said in January he believed there was « no chance » his father would survive until the end of 2014. « I just want, hope and pray to God that this awful disease takes my dad sooner rather than later, » he said.in independent.co.uk/
